Child dies after eating poison-laced sweet

May 07, 2011 01:18 am | Updated 01:18 am IST - CUDDALORE:

A woman and her two daughters, who consumed poison-laced sweet, fell unconscious in their house at Kurinjipadi near here on Wednesday.

While Arundadhi (2) died on way to hospital, M. Anjammal (25) and Swetha (5) are recuperating at the Cuddalore Government Hospital.

Police sources said Mani (28), a daily wage labourer, had bought ‘halwa,' laced it with poison and left it on the loft to eradicate rat menace.

However, he failed to inform his family members. In his absence, Anjammal unsuspectingly took the sweet and shared it with her daughters. The police are investigating.
