The health condition of DMK chief M. Karunanidhi continued to remain stable on Monday, after his recovery from a temporary setback on Sunday.
While there was no bulletin all day from the private hospital in Alwarpet, sources said there was no deterioration in his status, while there was no great progress either. He was under constant monitoring.
Mr. Karunanidhi’s son and DMK working president M.K. Stalin later in the night said his condition remained as explained in Sunday night’s bulletin from the hospital — that his vital signs were normalising with active medical support.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami and his deputy O. Panneerselvam visited the hospital to enquire about his health with Mr. Stalin and MP Kanimozhi on Monday. They were accompanied by School Education Minister K.A. Sengottaiyan, Health Minister C. Vijayabaskar, Law Minister C. Ve. Shanmugam and others.
Speaking to reporters, Mr. Palaniswami said: “He is doing well. I saw him along with Mr. Panneerselvam.”
NCP chief Sharad Pawar, along with party MP Praful Patel, also met Mr. Stalin and Ms. Kanimozhi to wish Mr. Karunanidhi.
In a tweet, Mr. Pawar said, “Visited the ailing former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu M. Karunanidhi in Chennai. Wished him a speedy recovery and good health.”
MDMK leader Vaiko also paid a visit to the hospital. “He fought against many forces to protect the interests of Tamil Nadu, and against oppression. He will beat death and come back,” said Mr. Vaiko.
Jaggi Vasudev, Sri Lankan Ministers visit hospital
Isha Yoga founder Jaggi Vasudev also met Mr. Stalin, Ms. Kanimozhi and DMK leader Durai Murugan. After the meeting, he said, “He is stable now.”
Film personalities Surya, along with his father R. Sivakumar, and Pandiarajan, Manobala and Ramesh Khanna were among others who enquired about his health at the hospital.
Sri Lankan Ministers Senthil Thondaman and Arumugam Thondaman met Mr. Stalin and Ms. Kanimozhi and presented a letter from Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena wishing Mr. Karunanidhi a speedy recovery.
