KARAIKUDI
Karaikudi police have registered a case against A. Nazar Ali, son of AIADMK MP A. Anwar Raja, based on a complaint filed by a Chennai-based woman, Praballa Subash alias Robina, who alleged that he had cheated her and married someone else.
After Superintendent of Police T. Jayachandran forwarded Ms. Robina’s petition, Karaikudi police booked Mr. Ali under Sections 417 (cheating), 420 (cheating a person and induces the deceived to deliver any property) and 506 (i) (criminal intimidation) of the IPC and under the provisions of the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013.
Based on the complaint lodged by Ms. Robina, the police have registered the FIR and the case would be transferred to jurisdictional police in Chennai for enquiry and action, the police said.
As the woman, hailing from Madipakkam in Chennai, had also lodged a complaint with the Ramanathapuram SP on March 24 – Mr. Ali is hailing from Ramanathapuram – the police registered a case in Community Service Register (CSR) and questioned Mr. Ali. However, Mr. Ali denied the charges levelled against him as false, sources said.
After lodging complaints with the two SPs, Ms. Robina, on Sunday staged a dharna in front of the Jamath in Karaikudi, urging the Jamath leaders not to give consent to Mr. Ali’s marriage, stating that they had already been living together after he promised to marry her and his marriage with another woman was illegal.
She had also staged a dharna inside the hotel at Ariyakudi, where the marriage was arranged, but could not stop the marriage. She later left for Chennai.
