The Pearl City Express was running end to end in electric traction and its timings could be adjusted to depart Tuticorin at 7:30 p.m. to reach Chennai Egmore either by 6:30 a.m. or 7 a.m.

The Tuticorin - Chennai Egmore - Tuticorin daytime link express (16129/16130) should depart Tuticorin at 8 a.m. as the main train from Guruvayur reached Vanchi Maniyachi junction mostly by 9 a.m. and the return train should be operated to reach Tuticorin at 7:45 p.m.
