Union Minister Suresh Prabhu too calls on ailing Karunanidhi

Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh N. Chandrababu Naidu on Saturday visited Kauvery Hospital, where Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) President and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi has been admitted. Mr. Naidu, who arrived at the hospital around noon, stayed for a brief while and also met the family members of Mr. Karunanidhi there.

The other leaders who visited the hospital on Saturday included Suresh Prabhu, Minister for Commerce, Industry and Civil Aviation, who was accompanied by Shahnawaz Hussain, National Spokesperson for the BJP. Indian National League President Mohammed Suleiman also called on the DMK patriarch.

On Sunday, President of India Ram Nath Kovind is scheduled to make a brief visit to the city to inquire about Mr. Karunanidhi’s health. He will land at the Chennai airport at 2.30 p.m. and will reach the hospital by road. He will return to the airport by 3.10 p.m. Ahead of his visit, the police conducted a security drill around the hospital and other places in the city.

Meanwhile, doctors attending to Mr. Karunanidhi said the DMK chief’’s health status remained the same — ‘stable, but critical’. He was admitted to the Kauvery Hospital on Friday last after his blood pressure dipped.
