Closed-Circuit Television cameras (CCTVs) will be installed at six locations under Sri Mookarai village panchayat limits in Srivaikuntam to prevent any theft of banana bunches.

Based on the grievances aired by some villagers during a special camp organised at the village to build communal harmony, the district administration had decided to establish the facility, Collector M. Ravikumar said here on Monday.

Eleven special camps had been organised at 13 villages so far in Srivaikuntam taluk and there was an overwhelming response from the people. During these camps, 498 people had come forward to participate in training to get employments in industrial sector and 405 persons enrolled their names to participate in job mela, which is likely to be organised on the first Saturday of June at Srivaikuntam. Besides, an exclusive training centre would be set up at Srivaikuntam in the interest of civil services aspirants. Over 1,100 job positions were vacant and hence job-seekers had to succeed in competitive exams.

Moreover, training for recruitment to police force was on in villages identified under this programme. Loan assistance through Central Cooperative Bank had been extended to 53 people so far and 123 more people also applied for loans for rearing poultry birds, cattle, goats and for small business.

During the special camps, bus services were restored to Padmanabamangalam, Isavankulam, Srivaikuntam to Eral, Sathankulam, Anantha Nambikurichi, Subramaniapuram and Kongarayakurichi. Further, part-time fair price shops were opened at Isavankulam and Moolakarai, the Collector said.
