Case filed against CBI probe into idol theft cases

G.O. filed to derail investigations being conducted by the Idol Wing CID

Activist-advocate ‘Elephant’ G. Rajendran has filed a writ petition in the Madras High Court challenging the validity of a government order issued on August 1 handing over all idol theft cases under investigation by the Idol Wing CID, as well as complaints that may be received in the future, to the Central Bureau of Investigation. The petitioner claimed that the government had passed the G.O. to derail the probe by the Idol Wing IGP A.G. Ponn Manickavel, and to overcome an order passed by the court on July 21 last year specifically appointing Mr. Manickavel as the head of the Idol Wing.
