January 07, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 09:10 am IST - TIRUNELVELI:

Valliyoor police have registered a case against a businessman for allegedly threatening a group of transgender with his pistol on Monday night.

Police said a group of transgender were seeking alms near Valliyoor on Monday night. They compelled S. Ramanathan (74) of Parappaadi near Nanguneri, who owns a book shop in Malaysia, to give money to them. When he refused, they abused him verbally and behaved in an inappropriate manner, the police said.

Agitated over this, Mr. Ramanathan pulled out his licensed pistol and warned them to move away.

Based on the complaint from one P. Geetha, a transgender, the Valliyoor police have filed a case against Mr. Ramanathan.
