A woman from Guntur died on the spot and three others were injured when the car they were travelling in hit a roadside tree on the Cheyyar-Arani Road on Saturday.

The police said Mohanarao, 65, and Rajalakshmi, 60, along their relatives Srinivasalu Rao, 51, and his wife Jhansi, 40, reached Tiruvannamalai on Friday for the ‘Pournami Girivalam’. They finished the ritual and were heading back the next day.

When the car reached Arugavur on Cheyyar-Arani Road, the driver reportedly lost control. The vehicle rammed a tree near the road. While Rajalakshmi died on the spot, others were rushed to Government Hospital in Cheyyar for treatment. They were referred to the Chengalpet Medical College Hospital for speciality treatment, an investigating officer from the Cheyyar police said.
