projects win prizes

Two projects submitted by students of Mount Zion College of Engineering and Technology have won the first and third prizes under the State government’ e-governance awards. The projects titled, Snaport and Smart Ration, won the first and third prizes respectively, according to a release from the college.

The Snaport software project was guided by Jayson K. Jayabarathan, Director, Mount Zion College of Engineering and Technology, and carried out by a team of students comprising Praveen, Sanju Abel, Vibin Paul, Sam Rajan and Aldrin. The software enables interaction between officials and the public, who wish to highlight problems concerning them.

The smart ration is a students’ initiative showing the stock position regarding rice, cereals, sugar, and kerosene at ration shops. The project was carried out by Sudharsan, Viswa, Aadharsh, Vigneswaran, Pandimurugan, Chidambaram, Ranjith, and Rajeswaran. Pudukottai District Collector S. Ganesh gave away the prizes.

Around 100 students and participants from industries got benefitted out the programme.

Workshop

The Tiruchi Local Centre of The Institution of Engineers (India) organised a two-day workshop on “Cost effective effluent treatment systems” at National Institute of Technology, Tiruchi, recently.

The seminar focussed on cost effective processes and technologies for treating tannery effluent, polluted river water, industrial waste water, consumer waste, municipal solid waste, and wastewater from textile industry. Participants were xposed to issues such as contamination because of anthropogenic activities, legislations for pollution control, eco-friendly waste management, and impact on potable water quality were given to the participants.

S. Sundararajan, Director, NITT, inaugurated the programme and requested the student participants to effectively utilise the seminar to take up projects useful for the society. M. Muthukrishnan, General Manager, BHEL, Tiruchi, explained the role played by BHEL in treating effluents generated in coal combustion at thermal power plants and briefed about the international scenario of carbon capture and sequestration.

HR meet at MIET

Students should improve their skills in terms of domain knowledge, values, communication and decision-making to meet the industry expectations, said Saravana Praveenkumar, Senior HR, Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HP), Chennai, at a HR meet hosted by the Department of Management Studies, M.I.E.T. Engineering College.

Pointing to the gap between the industries expectation and students aspiration, he said the only way to bridge the gap was to develop the skills of students. Students should update their knowledge, develop domain expertise, communication and adaptability, and decision-making skills.

College Chairman A. Mohamed Yunus presided over the programme.

NCC Day

The 67th National Cadet Corps Day was celebrated at Anbil Dharmalingam Agricultural College and Research Institute. P. Pandiyarajan, Dean, appreciated the NCC unit of the college and the performance of the cadets in the parade and training camps. He presented the certificates to cadet K. Krishna Sai, second year student who participated in the Special National Integration Camp held at Korangi, Andhra Pradesh, and Under Officer K. Geethalakshmi, who secured higher marks in the B certificate exam.

C. Sekar, Professor and Head, Department of Social Sciences, Lieutenant T. Ramesh, Associate NCC Officer, and M. Jawaharlal, Dean, Horticultural College and Research Institute for Women, spoke.

Business ideas

Five groups of students of the M.A.M.B. School presented their business ideas as a panel discussion on “entrepreneurship as career” organised jointly by the Young Indians (Yi) Tiruchi Chapter and M.A.M.B. School.

B. Ponnambalam, chair, Yi, Tiruchi Chapter, said budding entrepreneurs should find business opportunities by identifying problems in society.

Senthilnathan, Managing Director, RIBO Industries, said leadership quality, confidence, and attitude were important for budding entrepreneurs. K. Manikandan, Managing Director, Kalyani Covering, urged students to be update on the market and be clear on their business plan. Young entrepreneurs should be willing to face challenges, he said.

Joseph, Managing Partner, Travel Assistant, Fathim Bathool Maluk, CEO, B. Annette, Director, and faculty members of M.A.M. B School spoke.

Programme on libraries

Jesudoss Manalan, Librarian, Bishop Heber College, has been invited to participate in a programme on “The future of libraries — libraries of the future” to be held in Germany under an invitation extended by the German Federal Foreign Office — Visitors Programme, according to a college release. He would be visiting leading libraries in Germany, including those in Berlin, Leipzig and Frankfurt, the release added.

Constitution Day

Constitution Day was celebrated in Roever Engineering College, Perambalur, commemorating the birth anniversary of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. Dr. K. Varadharaajean, chairman of Roever Group of Educational Institutions, presided over.

P. Senthilnathan, advocate, traced how the Constitution was framed and observed that the Constitution upholds the value of democracy, secularism, and protects the rights of the citizens. Principal A. Allirani spoke.
