Workshop on hospital

administration

Service-mindedness, patience, and empathy towards the patients were essential prerequisites for hospital administrators and support staff, said S. Sethuraman, president, Indian Medical Association, Tiruchi, at a workshop on ‘Recent Trends in Hospital Administration,’ organised by the Department of Hospital Administration, Shrimati Indira Gandhi College.

M.S. Ashraf, senior physician, pointed out that medical aid which was out of reach of the ordinary man in those days was now easily available, thanks to the development of the health care industry.

K. Meena, former Vice-Chancellor, Bharathidasan University, said that technological advancements had made hospital administration a special branch of service and there was huge scope for students, especially women in this area.

Kunjithapatham, secretary of the college, and S. Vidyalakshmi, Principal, were present.

S. Manivannan, Joint Managing Director, Kavery Group of Hospitals, Tiruchi, spoke on “technologies that will transform future health care”.

S.P. Tirupathy, consultant neurosurgeon, ABC Hospital, Tiruchi, spoke on “Individual’s morale — safe society”.

Manoj Janardhan, General Manager (Operations), Apollo Hospitals, Tiruchi, spoke on “Facts and facets of hospital administration”. A panel discussion on “doctor-patient relationship” formed part of the workshop.

Mr. SWAP 2015

Srimad Andavan Arts and Science College bagged the overall championship in SWAP 2015, an inter-collegiate technical symposium, organised by the PG and Research Department of Computer Science, Jamal Mohamed College.

S. Mohamed Nazeer from Sri Venkateswara from Sri Venkateswara College of Computer Applications and Management, Coimbatore, was adjudged ‘Mr. SWAP 2015.’ Around 200 students from various colleges and universities took part in the symposium. Events such as code conversion, debugging, extempore, googler, poster creation, quiz, web designing and treasure hunt were conducted. A.K. Khaja Nazeemudeen, secretary and correspondent, Jamal Mohamed College, gave away the prizes.

ICTACT Youth Icon

R. Jayashree, final year Information Technology student of Saranathan College of Engineering emerged winner in the national final of ICTACT Youth Present contest. She was awarded the title ‘ICTACT Youth Icon 2015’ and won a trip to Singapore. S. Ravindran, secretary of the college, V. Nagarajan, director, and D. Valavan, Principal, felicitated the student.

New meet record

A. Mothi Arun of National College set a new meet record in high jump at the Bharathidasan University inter-collegiate athletic meet.

Mothi Arun, who cleared a height of 2.04 metre, erased the previous record of 2.02 metres set by Nikhil Chittarasu in 2010. K. Anbarasu, Principal, and D. Prasanna Balaji, Director of Physical Education, felicitated the young athlete.

Students from various colleges in South India participated in an employability skill enhancement programme organised by the Department of Management Studies, National Institute of Technology, Tiruchi. The participants were trained by thought leaders, HR managers, career consultants, successful entrepreneurs, and academicians. Ravi Kumar, chairman, Zanec Ltd, India, Soma Valliappan, motivational speaker and writer, Anuradha Nagarajan, HR consultant, A.S. Samad, AGM-HR, BHEL, Tiruchi, Pandiraja, Deputy Director, Directorate General of Central Excise Intelligence, Kolkata, K. Balasubramaniam, CEO, Creative Management Consultancy, Tiruchi, B. Vinod, Associate Professor, Department of Humanities, B.T. Bangera, MD, Hi-Tech Arai Pvt Ltd, G. Muruganantham, Faculty, Management Studies, NIT-T, K. Ganesh, Knowledge Expert, McKinsey & Company Inc, and R. Mukundha Krishnan, yoga guru, spoke.

SASTRA team wins

Moot Court contest

The School of Law, SASTRA University, won the 18th S.C. Javali National Moot Court competition organised by the Karnatak University’s Sir Siddappa Kambali Law College at Dharwad recently. It is notable that the SASTRA University had won the 16th edition as well.

The team comprising M. Kiran, Bharath R. Srinivas and Sona Venkatesan beat the team from the BMS Law College in the finals. A total of 18 law schools from all over India participated in this Moot Court on International Space Law concerning the ownership of an asteroid and its natural resources. Former Chief Justice of India R.M. Lodha gave away the prizes to the winners.

In the same manner, the SASTRA University School of Law emerged the runners up in the Ninth NALSAR – Justice Bodh Raj Sawhney Memorial Moot Court Competition organised by the NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad, earlier this month.

This SASTRA University team comprising Adith Narayan, Manasa Ananthan and Varsha Chandrasekhar came second best in the tier moot competition reaching the final after a gruelling run. Around 71 reputed law schools across the country participated in this Moot Competition that focussed on constitutional issues in patent and competition law.

LEO Club opens

at Bon Secours

The LEO Club was inaugurated at the Bon Secours College for Women, Thanjavur, under the guidance of the Lions Club Host of Thanjavur recently in which the Lions District Governor S. Vedanayagam presided.

Principal Sr. Victory, President of the Lions Club U.N.Umapathy Coordinator of the Leo Club S. Meenakshi spoke on the occasion detailing the virtues and values that made the Lions International movement emerge strong over the years.

While P. Yasotha was installed as President of the Leo Club of Bon Secours College for Women, K. Nivetha was chosen vice-president and V. Rajalakshmi as secretary completed the office-bearares.

The Vasan Eye Care conducted an eye care camp while Selva Dental Clinic organized a dental care camp on the occasion. More than 500 students benefited from the medical camps. Secretary of the Lions Club of Host Thanjavur G. Chinnadurai proposed a vote of thanks.

The Entrepreneurship Development Cell of the SASTRA University organised “Start up Jagriti” _ a two-day Entrepreneurship Awareness camp for college students belonging to Thanjavur and Tiruchi recently.

Dr. B. Viswanathan, Dean, School of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, SASTRA University inaugurated the event and advised the students to find solutions to problems plaguing the society through the entrepreneurial means.

V. Badrinath, Dean, School of Management and Director, Training & Placement, said that the SASTRA University had organised more than 40 such programmes for various target groups like college students, self help groups, unemployed youth and unemployed SC/ST students.

Chief Manager, State Bank of India, Thanjavur Main, Varadarajan, in his special address mentioned that small countries like Korea and Taiwan are leading the world in industry and business because of their citizens’ spirit of entrepreneurship. Indians must be ready to face the challenges and become successful entrepreneurs, he urged.

Around 150 students from 10 colleges participated in the programme.
