English camp

A five-day English enrichment camp was conducted for undergraduate students of Vivekananda College, Tiruvedakam West, from June 12. R. Ilango, former Vice-Principal, in his keynote address, highlighted the need for students to imbibe renunciation and service as twin ideals of life.

In his presidential address, B. Ramamoorthy, Principal, explained how newspaper reading had been incorporated in the English enrichment camp. A. Satheesh Babu, Assistant Professor of Economics, welcomed the gathering.

S. Raja, Vice-Principal and coordinator, Internal Quality Assurance Cell, said that English skill was essential for personal development. R. Jayabalan, former Vice-Principal, and K. Karthikeyan, Associate Professor of Commerce, offered felicitations.

S. Bharatiraja, Assistant Professor of English, proposed a vote of thanks.

Course in start-up engineering

A summer course in start-up engineering was conducted at Pandian Saraswathi Yadav Engineering College, Arasanoor, from June 13.

The objective of the five-day course was to provide practical orientation on various tools such as Bootstrap and Ionic framework for students drawn from different colleges, including KLS College of Engineering, Thiagarajar College and Madura College, to develop designing and programming skills in cutting edge technologies of application development. The course was inaugurated by V. Dharmalingam, Principal. S.P. Varadharajan, Managing Director, addressed the participants.

Types of pollution

World Environment Day was observed at Arasan Ganesan Polytechnic College, Sivakasi, recently. T. Vijaya Bhaskar, District Environmental Engineer, Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board, in his address, explained the different types of pollution and their causes and effect. He also spoke about green house effect, solid waste, industrial waste, biomedical waste and plastic waste management. Mr. Vijaya Bhaskar said that pollution could be controlled easily by adopting 4Rs —- reduce at source, reuse, recycle and recover. NSS volunteer K. Krishiga welcomed the gathering. Principal M. Nandakumar presided over the function. R. Mohaideen Akbar proposed a vote of thanks.
