Cameras installed to spot leopard

November 23, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:43 am IST - TIRUPUR:

Officials of the Forest Department on Sunday installed four cameras at Chinnandipalayam area in the city outskirts after a farmer claimed that he spotted a leopard on Saturday night.

Forest Ranger (Amaravathi) Thangaraj Paneerselvam, who inspected the place and monitored the installation of cameras, told The Hindu that Govindaraj, a maize farmer, had claimed that he saw a leopard passing through the area on Saturday night.

Pug marks

However, the pug marks shown by him were those of domesticated dogs, he said.

“Even then, we did not want to take any chances.

“So we have installed the cameras at locations around the maize farm apart from deploying human surveillance,” he said.
