The Tamil Nadu unit of the All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) has urged the State government to take steps to fill vacant posts in labour courts to facilitate expeditious disposal of labour and industrial dispute cases.

A resolution adopted at its State executive meeting here on Sunday referred to an inordinate delay in the disposal of cases involving labour disputes owing to vacancy in various posts. Another resolution wanted the monthly rehabilitation grant of Rs. 3,500 being given to cotton mill employees to be increased to Rs.7,500. The resolution said that these workers were finding it hard to eke out their livelihood with this meagre relief and hence pleaded for the increase.

Through another resolution, the meeting expressed its thanks to the State electorate for having given their verdict in favour of All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK).

S.S. Thiagarajan, general secretary of the AITUC, read out a report on its achievements. K. Subbarayan, former MP, presided over the meeting. Vahitha Nizam, national vice president, and senior leader A.M. Gopu were among those who spoke.
