Seven hundred National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets of the 10 Tamil Nadu NCC Battalion, Vellore, comprising 450 school cadets and 250 college cadets from 24 schools and six colleges in Vellore district displayed their skills in various activities including firing and drill at the 10-day Combined Annual Training Camp held at the Government Boys Higher Secondary School (GBHSS) in K. Velur in Arcot taluk from May 21 to 30.
The following cadets, colleges and schools won prizes at the various competitions conducted during the camp:
Firing:
College level: I prize –R. Vignesh (Voorhees College, Vellore); II prize– A. Ramkumar (Muthurangam Government Arts College, Vellore).
School level: I prize – V. Lokesh (GBHSS, Walajapet); II prize – S. Mohanraj (Sri Ramakrishna BHEL HSS, Ranipet).
Individual drill:
College level: I prize – V. Rajesh Khanna (Voorhees College); II prize – S. Vinodh Kumar (Islamiah College, Vaniyambadi).
School level: I prize – James (Hindu HSS, Ambur); II prize – S. Seenu (GBHSS, Katpadi).
Group drill:
College level: I prize – Voorhees College; II prize – Muthurangam Government Arts College.
School level: I prize – GBHSS, Ranipet; II prize – Hindu HSS, Vaniyambadi.
Competitions were held and prizes awarded in 15 different events. M. Nandakumar, president, K. Velur village panchayat and president of the Parent Teachers Association (PTA) of the GBHSS, K. Velur, A. Ravichandran, Headmaster of the school and L. Gopu, treasurer of the PTA participated in the valedictory function of the camp and gave away prizes and medals to the winners of the various competitions at the school premises on Monday.
Harish Chandra Singh, Commanding Officer of the 10 TN NCC Battalion, Vellore and the camp commandant presided over the valedictory function. He presented cash prizes of Rs.1000 each to D. Hariharasudhan, S. Arjun and T. Jayakrishnan, NCC cadets of Voorhees College and R. Vijaya Prabhakaran and R. Rajapandi, cadets of Muthurangam Government Arts College who participated on behalf of the Vellore Battalion at the Republic Day celebrations held in New Delhi this year.
S.K. Tirupathi, Subedhar Major and K. Raja, Public Relations Officer of the Vellore Battalion, and NCC Officers Nazeer Pasha, D. Manivanna Pandian, P. Mohammed Kalimulla, K. Sudhakar, R. Nagarajan and S. Anbazhagan, and Battalion Training Wing Officer O. Ramachandra guided the camp activities.
