Buses, trees face PMK cadre wrath

Pockets in the Western part of Tamil Nadu in general and in Erode, Krishnagiri and Dharmapuri continued to witness stray incidents of pelting of stones on buses. In Erode, buses were pelted with stones in Anthiyur and Ammapet blocks and in Erode town in protest against the arrest of Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) founder Dr. S. Ramadoss.

State Transport Corporation suspended a few bus services to Mettur following the stone-pelting incidents. Police deployed armed personnel in buses that were operated during the night hours.

Meanwhile, police arrested two PMK members - Shanmugam (30) and Devaraj (29) on charges of damaging the windows of a government bus near Anthiyur on April 30.

In Ammapet, police arrested Velusamy (40) on charges of felling a tree in order to disrupt the traffic in the area.

As many as 79 PMK cadre, including a former M.L.A., were arrested in Krishnagiri and Dharmpuri in connection with the protest against the arrest of the PMK Youth wing leader Anbumani Ramadoss. In Krishnagiri, former Kaveripattinam M.L.A. T. Meganathan was arrested.
