Bus service between Kolli Hills and Mullukurichi sought

Stating that the road laid to Kolli Hills from Mullukurichi was lying unused for the past two years, villagers atop the hills demanded that buses be operated through the road.

Currently, villagers find it hard to travel through the existing road through Karavalli that has 70 hairpin bends. Hence a survey was carried out in 2007 and an alternative road was laid through Mullukurichi in Rasipuram to Kolli Hills that has less than 15 hairpin bends.

Villagers residing in other side of the hill can reach the plains in Thammampatti in Salem district just by travelling 15 km. However, in the absence of bus service, tribal people cannot use the road and have to depend on private vehicles to bring their agriculture produces to the markets in the plains. Hence, they demanded that buses be operated through the new road so that they could move easily to the plains for marketing their products.

Also, during emergency, instead of travelling 25 km to reach hospital in Semmedu, it is easy for them to travel to Thammampatti, they added.

They later submitted a petition to District Collector V. Dakshinamoorthy.
