 K. Parimalam (46), an AIADMK party functionary, his wife, Uma Maheswari (41), a former AIADMK municipal councillor, and five other persons were arrested by the police in connection with the bus burning incident that took place in Kancheepuram on Saturday.

A State Transport Corporation bus coming to Kancheepuram from Poonamallee was torched by some miscreants on Jawaharlal Nehru Street (Kammala Street) at around 3.15 p.m. on Saturday, a few minutes after the Bangalore Special Court pronounced its verdict in the disproportionate wealth case in which the AIADMK general secretary was one among the four accused persons.

Subsequently, Mr. Parimalam, his wife and five others — Chandru (26), Lakshmanan (57), Suresh (27), Prakash (24) and Rajkumar (29), were arrested and a case under sections 147, 148, 294 (b), 341, 353 and 506(2) of IPC read with sections 3 and 4 of TNPPD Act was registered against them. They were remanded to judicial custody till October 10, police said.
