The free call scheme provided by BSNL for the police, and their family members has become an instant hit with the company getting nearly 1,000 applications.

Under the closed user group (CUG) facility, the customer can make unlimited calls within the group, and make 50 short service messages.

The district has a direct police strength of 1,000 personnel, and an indirect strength of over 200 personnel.

An estimated 7,000 to 8,000 closed user group SIMs are proposed to be given issued for the personnel, and their family members.

BSNL is expected to provide close to 7,000 SIM cards in February.

The company is also providing the option to select fancy numbers, and migration facility. The CUG scheme will bring relief to police personnel who are usually working away from family members.

Earlier, the CUG facility was available for police personnel above the ranks of SI. The new scheme is for all the staff.

The scheme help the men on duty to stay connected with their family members without worrying much about the cost involved.
