January 09, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:50 am IST - TUTICORIN:

Pressing a charter of demands to be fulfilled by the Central government, BSNL employees under the Joint Forum of BSNL Unions and Associations staged a dharna here on Thursday.

I. Lingabaskar, president of the Joint Forum, who led the dharna on the BSNL office premises on WGC Road here, said efforts should be taken to fill up posts of chairman-cum-managing director and board of directors in the BSNL, soon.

The government’s proposal to merge BSNL with MTNL should be dropped.

Moreover, free allotment of spectrum to BSNL should be provided and he also sought sufficient allotment of funds to the BSNL to expand its network as assured earlier.

The much awaited 4 G services should be launched and the officials should take adequate steps to implement this facility.

He also added that the government’s policy of mandatory purchase of equipment from Indian Telephone Industry should be repealed.
