Bring in total prohibition, says Kumari Ananthan

Chief Minister Jayalalithaa should fulfil the demand for total prohibition in the State, said Kumari Ananthan, former president of the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee and president of Gandhiya Peravai, here on Friday.

Completing his 50-day padayatra from Chennai to Kanyakumari at Gandhi Mandapam, Mr. Kumari Ananthan told reporters that former Chief Minister M.G. Ramachandran fulfilled his demand for introduction of ferry service to Vivekanandar Rock and former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi fulfilled his demand for construction of Manimandapam for Kamarajar in Kanyakumari.

Similarly, Ms. Jayalalithaa should concede his demand for total prohibition, he stressed.

Earlier in Kanyakumari, Mr. Kumari Ananthan began his padayatra as a rally from Vivekananda Kendra and ended it at Gandhi Mandapam.

TNCC vice-president H. Vasantha Kumar, former Tamil Nadu Minister N. Suresh Rajan, and former Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam MP Helen Davidson participated.

At the end of the rally, Mr. Kumari Ananthan garlanded the statue of Kamarajar and administered a pledge against liquor consumption to party cadres and the gathering.

Mr. Kumari Ananthan begun his padayatra from Rajaji statue in Chennai on December 25.

He fainted during his padayatra in Tirunelveli district on February 9 and was hospitalised. He resumed his padayatra again on Thursday.
