A brick kiln owner near Sandhavasal was abducted for ransom on Sunday.

However, he was released by abductors as police swiftly acted and zeroed in on the culprits.

Prabu (23) of Rettaithaar village near Santhavasal was moving in an earth mover from his brick kiln on Sunday when a gang that came in a car intercepted the vehicle.

The gang forcibly took Parabu in their vehicle. An uncle of Prabu was a witness to the incident. He questioned the gang members about why he was being taken away. One of them replied that they were friends of Prabu and they would send him back shortly.

The uncle informed the family about the incident. However, as Prabu failed to return as expected, the family panicked and went in search of Prabu.

Ransom demand

Late in the night Prabu’s brother Prasanth received a call and the purported abductor demanded Rs.50 lakh as ransom to release Prabu. The family immediately contacted police who in turn formed a team and started investigation. They started suspecting that Prabu had links with red sanders mafia.

As they checked the details of the call that Prasanth received, they came to know that the call was made from Virinjipuram-K V Kuppam area of Vellore district.

Police went to the place and asked Prasanth, who was accompanying them, to act as if he was ready to give money in return of his brother’s release.

As the abductors sensed that police was pursuing them they left Prabu at Virinjipuram bypass road and escaped. Police gave alerts in the region immediately and Sakthivel of Thuthipattu near K.V.Kuppam, who was allegedly involved in the abduction, was arrested.
