A man from Tripura has been arrested here on Friday in connection with the bomb threat issued to the Christian Medical College Hospital on Wednesday.

According to police sources, the CMC Hospital received two telephone calls from an anonymous caller between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. on Wednesday threatening that he has planted bombs in four places in the hospital and that they would explode at 10 a.m. Consequently, the Chief Security Officer of the hospital informed the police who sent the bomb detection and disposal squad (BDDS). After a thorough search, the team found that it was a hoax.

A team of the Vellore North Police which was investigating the case arrested Syed Ahmed Ali (39) in the hospital premises on Friday and interrogated him at the Anaicut Police Station.

The accused, who was found to be mentally unsound, confessed to the police that he issued the bomb threat as the security personnel refused to allow him into the hospital to get treated for cancer.
