Police have exhumed the body of a youth, who was allegedly murdered by the husband of a woman, with whom he reportedly had an affair.

According to the police, L. Arumugam (27) of Rajavallipuram under Gangaikondan police station limits, who was working in a tyre manufacturing unit at SIPCOT Industrial Complex, did not return home after he went for work on a bike on June 21. Based on the complaint from the youth’s father, Lakshmanan, Gangaikondan police registered a case.

Arumugam’s two-wheeler was recovered from a farm well near Rajavallipuram when deepening of the well was taken up a couple of days ago.

During investigation, the police found that Arumugam was murdered by one Kannan, his brother Esakkimuthu and two others.

As Kannan was working abroad, Arumugam used help Kannan’s wife Kutti alias Bhanu (25) in taking money from the nearest Automated Teller Machine, and he subsequently developed an affair with her.

As Esakkimuthu came to know about this relationship, he informed his brother of his sister-in-law’s affair with the youth, and warned Arumugam to snap the relationship.

As Arumugam continued the relationship, Kannan returned to his native place and decided to kill Arumugam after he had a discussion with Esakkimuthu.

The plan was translated into action on June 21 and the bike was dumped in the well.

They also buried the body of Arumugam in a secluded place.

After Kannan and Esakkimuthu, who were picked up by the police for interrogation, reportedly confessed that they had buried the body in a particular place, it was exhumed by the police, led by Thazhaiyoothu Deputy Superintendent of Police Rajaram, on Tuesday evening, and samples were collected for DNA analysis.

The police have arrested Kannan and Esakkimuthu.
