Bodies of children, student retrieved

Bodies of two children and an engineering student, who drowned in the sea at two different spots on Saturday, were retrieved on Monday.

Five persons, including three children, drowned in the sea near Simon Colony in Colachel and Sothavilai beach in Kanyakumari district on Saturday evening.

The children hailing from Theni district – Abinesh (12), Harish (10) and Vino Dharshan (6) – drowned in the sea while playing on the shore near Kodimunai in Colachel on Saturday evening. The children had come to attend a function at their relative’s house in Simon Colony.

Even as the search for the children continued on Monday, the body of Abinesh was retrieved by fishermen while the body of Vino Dharshan was washed ashore at Kadiyapattinam. The bodies were taken to Colachel Government Hospital for post-mortem.

The search is on for Harish.

Similarly, Nisha Priya (15) and Kevin (19) of Pechiparai drowned in the sea near Sothavilai beach. The body of Nisha Priya was retrieved immediately and a search was on to fish out the body of Kevin, an engineering student.

His body was washed ashore at Sanguthurai beach on Monday.
