BJP workers arrested for assaulting pastor, 2 others

Forced them to prostrate in a temple

The Ariyalur police on Saturday arrested three BJP workers for manhandling a pastor and two others, claiming that they were allegedly distributing pamphlets for religious conversion.

According to the police, Pastor Aaronkumar of Kanikkaipuram, S. Marx of Meenakshi Nagar and Y. Antony of Tiruchi had distributed pamphlets on Christianity to passers-by near a private bank on January 22. Objecting to this, BJP workers P. Muthuvel, 25, K. Vairavel, 39, and R. Ponsekar, 47, assaulted Aaronkumar and the others before taking them to a temple.

The BJP workers forced the three to apply holy ash (vibuthi) and kumkum. They forced them to prostrate before the main deity and let them go. The accused had allegedly recorded their actions and circulated the clip on WhatsApp.
