Fire and Rescue Services personnel destroyed the beehive from where a swarm of poisonous wasps stung to death two persons on Thursday.

Following information from the Michaelpatti panchayat officials near Thirukkattupalli in Thanjavur district, Fire personnel on Thursday day sprayed a strong insecticide on the beehive atop a tree in the village and when the wasps fell dead in clasps, they set fire to them.

But, the poisonous wasps had already inflicted multiple stings on 16 persons, including T. Sivanandam and A. Irudayaraj early in the day.

The two died while the 14 others were treated for complications, police said.

After post-mortem, the bodies of the two victims were handed over to the relatives.
