A large number of customers ranging from women group members, farmers, small and medium sized industrial unit owners, personal loan seekers attended a ‘customer outreach initiative’ organised by banks and financial institutions in Vellore on Friday.
The two-day event was inaugurated by B. Sankar, General Manager (Network 2), SBI Chennai Circle, and Shirley Thomas, General Manager (Network 1), SBI Chennai Circle.
“The paradigm of banking has changed and it is high time that the bankers reach out to the customers and cater to their financial needs,” said Ms. Shirley Thomas.
“This is part of the systematic bank reform process which envisioned taking banks to doorsteps and increasing ease of customer access and delivery of services,” said Mr. Sankar.
A total of 32 banks, small banks, and non banking financial services participated in the event by setting up stalls, meant to provide one-stop access for the general public to every product being offered by banks functioning in the district.
Bankers received loan applications from 1,616 customers to the tune of ₹75 crore.
Out of this, 618 customers were sanctioned ₹31.17 crore, and sanction letters pertaining to agriculture, housing MSME, Mudra loans, Stand-up India (SUI) and other government sponsored subsidy schemes, and personal segments like car, personal and pension loans were handed over to them.
The loans sanctioned at the programme include ₹12.5 crore from SBI, ₹7.26 crore from Indian Bank, ₹2.10 crore from Canara Bank, and ₹1.20 crore from IOB.
Ms. Shirley Thomas handed over sanction orders and interacted with the customers in the presence of S. Sethu Muruga Durai, Regional Manager, SBI Vellore, K. Usha, Assistant General Manager, Andhra Bank, K. Veerendra Babu, Regional Manager, Canara Bank, and Vellore Lead District Manager, B. John Theodusius.
S. Ravikumar from SBI Regional Business Office(RBO), Vellore, delivered a valedictory address.
