DMK chief M. Karunanidhi on Monday announced demonstrations in all district headquarters, on August 10, demanding immediate implementation of prohibition in Tamil Nadu.

In a statement, he said even though the DMK had promised to implement prohibition after coming to power in 2016, it had decided organise protests for closure of liquor shops taking into consideration the sentiments of the people.

He also strongly condemned the police action against protestors demanding total prohibition in Tamil Nadu, saying that instead treating the protests as a social issue that needed political solution the State government had resorted to police action.

"It is highly condemnable. I demand immediate release of the protestors," he said in a statement.
