Though the police did not grant permission, over 300 persons, including the family members of the workers, assembled near the Collectorate and tried to stage the protest.

The bail applications of 167 persons, arrested when they attempted to stage a demonstration on August 15, were dismissed by the District Sessions Court-II here on Tuesday after the prosecution established that the accused produced false names and addresses.

According to Public Prosecutor K. Sampath, the arrested persons, employed in different companies in the Special Economic Zones at Sriperumpudur and Oragadam, had applied for police permission under the banner of a labour union to stage a demonstration at Kancheepuram against the companies that hired them.

No permission

Though the police did not grant permission, over 300 persons, including the family members of the workers, assembled near the Collectorate and tried to stage the protest. The police took them to a marriage hall and booked the male demonstrators under various sections of the IPC.

When the bail petitions came up for hearing, the judge dismissed them after the prosecution informed the court that when the police, who sensed a foul play in the personal details given by the arrested, verified the same and found most of them were fake and fictitious.
