The mortal remains of nine of the ten soldiers who were killed in the avalanche that hit the Siachen glacier area on February 3 were flown to the Siachen base camp on Saturday, but could not be moved further to Leh “due to bad weather,” official sources said.

“Efforts [are] being taken to transport the mortal remains of our martyrs to Delhi and further to their home town,” an official release from the Defence Ministry stated.

Among the nine soldiers four hailed from Tamil Nadu: M Elumalai from Vellore, S Kumar from Theni, N. Ramamurthy from Krishnagiri and G. Ganesan from Madurai .

The soldier from Karnataka, Lance Naik Hanamanthappa, who was found alive, died eventually at the Army Research and Referral Hospital in Delhi on Thursday.
