With the River Cauvery in spate, the district administration has once again appealed to the people residing along both the sides of the river and also in low-lying areas to be cautious.

The river enters from Salem district to Erode district at Nerinjipettai and flows through Ammapettai, Bhavani, Pallipalayam, Erode, Kodumudi and enters Karur district. With the discharge stepped up from Mettur dam on Monday night, revenue officials through tom-tom and public address system continue to warn the people living near the river and asked them to be alert. Though very few households were present near the river, people enter the river for washing clothes and for feeding their cattle. They were warned not to enter the river or allow their children to go near the river on Tuesday.

Officials said that they are continuously monitoring the flow of water. Also, youths were also prevented from entering the river for taking bath.
