January 08, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:52 am IST - NAGERCOIL:

The Popular Front of India (PFI) urged the police and district administration to take action against those indulged in violence immediately after the attack on BJP leader P. Muthuraman on January 2 at Idalakkudi and Velladichivilai near Nagercoil.

Addressing a demonstration organised in front of the collectorate on Wednesday, the leaders alleged that over 20 persons carrying sickles and iron rods indulged in violence damaging over 30 houses and 20 vehicles including government buses.

During the violence, they also attacked Sheik Ali, a daily wage earner when he was passing through the area. Mr. Sheik Ali had sustained serious injuries and was admitted to a private hospital.

Even after giving the names of those indulged in violence to police officials, no concrete action had been taken against them so far, the leaders alleged. The demonstration was presided by PFI district president A. Makhin Abubakkar.

Manitha Neya Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam’s district president Syed Ali, IUML leader Sahul Hameed, SDPI district president Sulphikar Ali, CPI (ML) district secretary S.M. Anthony Muthu and others participated.
