Appeal to utilise Regulated Markets

Collector Sajjansingh R. Chavan called upon the officials of the Department of Agriculture Marketing to create awareness of the functioning of the Agriculture Regulated Markets in the district here on Saturday.

Inaugurating the programme for farmers and traders at Agriculture Regulated Market here, Mr. Chavan said that the regulated market has been functioning successfully for the last fifty years. Regulatory markets were also functioning in Ethamozhi, Vadaseri, Kalyakavilai, Thingalsanthai, Thoduvatti and Kulasekaram under the management of the Kanyakumari District Agriculture Regulatory Market. Agriculture produces such as paddy, coconut, tamarind, palm sugar, groundnut, cashew and rubber were sold through these regulated markets. These markets have godowns, adequate space for conducting business transactions and other basic infrastructural facilities. Arrangements were also in place for obtaining loan on their produce from banks on production of godown receipt upto Rs. 2 lakh for farmers and upto Rs. 1 lakh for traders. Besides this, farmers aged between 18 and 60 selling over one tonne of their produced per year were eligible to get welfare assistance under the Farmers’ Welfare Scheme. The Collector appealed to the farmers to utilise the facilities of the regulated markets across the district. Joint Director of Agriculture Elango, PA to Collector (Agriculture) A.
