A team representing Prajapitha Brahmakumaris Ishwariya Vishwa Vidyalaya displayed in public frightening visuals of the deadly impact of smoking habit on Sunday to mark observation of World No Tobacco Day.

Forty eight of the 400 harmful chemicals in tobacco causes cancer, and the smoke damages the brain, volunteers explained while distributing pamphlets to the public who passed by a mobile exhibition displaying the fear-evoking visuals. Passive smokers were as much affected, the pamphlets explained.

The Vidyalaya has offered free Rajayoga meditation programmes to smokers to quit the habit once and for all.

Members of Paatali Makkal Katchi, meanwhile, involved themselves in a signature campaign demanding that the Central Government pass the (Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products - Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulation of Trade and Commerce, Production, Supply and Distribution) Amendment Bill 2015.

The PMK’s State-wide signature campaign envisages collection of one million signatures.
