An anti-liquor activist, Sasi Perumal came under the spotlight when he launched a fast-unto-death for 32 days in 2013.

The self-proclaimed Gandhian demanded prohibition and expanded his campaign to all corners of the State. Sasi Perumal was a relentless fighter for total prohibition and had observed fasts in Chennai. He also took out a marathon run, ‘Deepa Oli Sudar Ottam,’ for the cause from Kanyakumari on December 23, 2014.

He joined the residents of Unnamalaikkadai in their sustained protest for shifting of the Tasmac shop. The shop was not closed even after the Madras High Court ordered its shifting.
