Rs. 1000-worth kit to be given to babies delivered in government hospitals

Mothers of newborn babies received the Rs. 1,000-worth ‘Amma Baby Care Kit’ in a simple function held at Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital here on Saturday.

District Collector M. Karunakaran, MPs S. Muthukaruppan, Vijila Sathyananth and K.R.P. Prabhakaran, Mayor E. Bhuvaneshwari, Tirunelveli MLA Nainar Nagenthran, Deputy Mayor P. Jeganthan alias Ganesan and others distributed the Amma Baby Care Kit to the mothers of the newborn babies.

The kit carries 16 types of products meant for baby care.

In a similar function organised at Tuticorin Medical College Hospital, Minister for Tourism S.P. Shanmuganathan distributed the Amma Baby Care Kit in the presence of Collector M. Ravikumar.

Nagercoil

Amma Baby Care Kits were distributed to newborns in Kanyakumari Government Medical College Hospital (KGMCH), 9 government hospitals and 36 Primary Health Centres in Kanyakumari district on Saturday.

The kit containing 16 items including a baby towel, dress, bed, mosquito net, napkin, oil, baby soap, bath soap, soap box, liquid sanitizer, nail cutter, ‘gilugiluppai’ (rattle), doll, ‘Sowbhaghya Legiyam’ (a medicinal preparation to improve mother’s health).

As many as 1,000 baby care kits have been sent to Kanyakumari district and they would be distributed to all the government hospitals, primary health centres (PHCs) and municipal health centres.

Presiding over the distribution programme at the KGMCH, Collector Sajjansingh R. Chavan appealed to the mothers to make proper use of the articles and ensure healthy growth of their babies.

Dr. M. Madhusoodhanan, Deputy Director of Health Services told The Hindu that the district received 1,000 kits initially. With the average monthly birth rate of the district being around 2,100, 700 to 750 deliveries are done at the government hospitals. The kits would be distributed to those babies delivered in government hospitals, he said.

The kits were distributed in the presence of the former Minister N. Thalavai Sundaram.

Dr. S. Vadivel Murugan, Dean, KGMCH, Dr. A. Murugan, Joint Director of Medical Services, Dr. M. Madhusoodhanan, Deputy Director of Health Services, Dr. M. Radhakrishnan, Medical Superintendent, KGMCH, MLAs K.T. Pachaimal (Kanyakumari) and Nanjil A. Murugesan (Nagercoil) participated.
