All the three State toppers from Tirupur district - E. Archana (Infant Jesus Matriculation HSS, Tirupur), B. Selvanayaki (Ponnu Matriculation HSS, Dharapuram) and S. Sharmila (Vivekananda Vidyalaya Matriculation HSS, Muthur) - hold identical ambitions of becoming doctors.

They scored 499 marks out of 500 with all of them losing the single mark in Tamil.

Even their study patterns sounded similar with spending almost six to seven hours daily for studies without much time allocated for entertainment during the last one year.

Sharmila, daughter of Senthil Kumar, a farmer, and Muthulakshmi, attributed her success to her grandmother who herself did not have formal education. “Every day, she used to sit with me during the entire study hours giving emotional support,” she said.

Though Archana, daughter of Eswaramoorthy, a textile sector businessman, and Kavitha, was confident of coming out with flying colours, the top rank doubled her excitement. Selvanayaki’s father is also a businessman and she expected a score of above 490 marks. “The top rank is a reward for my dedication to studies,” she said.

Second ranks

Twelve students from the district secured State second rank and another 20 students got State third rank.

Collector G. Govindaraj felicitated the top three rank holders at a function in the Collectorate.
