The State government plans to provide underground drainage in all villages in Karnataka in a phased manner.
Laying the foundation stone for the underground drainage (UGD) system in Suttur village here on Thursday at a cost of Rs. 12 crore, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said Suttur was the first to get the project, which will be extended to all other villages in due course.
The Chief Minister said administrative approval had been given for Rs. 5 crore out of the total of Rs.12 crore for the UGD line in Suttur village and it will be laid in the village keeping in mind the probable population by 2045.
He said social and economic inequality had to be eradicated to maintain peace and harmony in the society.
Revenue Minister V. Srinivas Prasad said a number of couples from different communities got married at an event organised by the mutt as part of Suttur Jatra Mahotsava, and he praised the seer of the mutt for not differentiating on the lines of caste and community.
The six-day Suttur Jatra Mahotsav concluded on Thursday.
Krishi mela, cattle fair, mass marriages, traditional sports competitions, wrestling competitions, cultural events were held as part of the mahotsav.
Lakhs of people from Mysuru and other parts of the State witnessed the annual event.
