Air India celebrates centenarian's flight

An Air India flight had a special passenger on board on its flight IC 439 to New Delhi on Wednesday.

The guest, a 102-year-old Tamil scholar, was the oldest passenger that the airline has served in the recent past.

Adigalar Asiriyar will celebrate his 102{+n}{+d} birthday on May 10.

Authored 63 books in Tamil

An official release from the airline said the centenarian hailing from Kallakurichi, Tamil Nadu, had authored 63 books in Tamil.

Along with a group of other Tamil scholars and dignitaries, he had gone to New Delhi to receive the ‘Tholkappiar Award' (in recognition of their services to Tamil literature) from President Pratibha Patil.

R. Radhakrishnan, Deputy General Manager (Commercial), Air India, felicitated the Tamil scholars at the airport.

On an earlier occasion, the national carrier had facilitated the travel of a 98-year-old passenger from Chennai, the release from the airline added.
