A group of members belonging to the All India Congress Committee on Sunday hit out at Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president Su. Thirunavukkarasar for his behaviour during the party’s protest against demonetisation last week.

In a statement, A.P.C.V. Shanmugam, N. Rangabashyam, V.R Sivaraman, G. Gerome Arrokiarajaj, M.D. Gulam Mogideen, and M. Vasantharaj, condemned the TNCC chief’s behaviour and his alleged remarks against former TNCC president E.V.K.S. Elangovan.

“The personal remarks made by Mr. Thirunavukkarasar against Mr. Elangovan and his family during the protests against demonetisation has saddened every Congress cadre,” they said in a statement.

They said that Mr. Thirunavukkasar did not have the stature to speak ill of Periyar or E.V.K. Sampath. “Mr. Sampath came out of the Dravidian movement because he believed that self-esteem was more important. Their family has a history of selling their properties and doing welfare for the people, and have not used politics or being in public life to earn even a rupee,” they said.

The members said a person who jumps parties for power and position would not know about history. “What right does Tirunavukkarasar, who has been in different parties for the sake of power, have to speak ill of Periyar,” they asked.

They warned that if he continued to talk ill of Mr. Elangovan, they would release details of his actions during the night of MGR’s death.
