AIADMK man expelled over derogatory tweet

Hours after the joint secretary of the AIADMK’s Information Technology wing [Kancheepuram (East) district unit], C. Hari Prabhakaran, posted a tweet denigrating journalists, the ruling party on Monday announced his expulsion from the organisation.

In his tweet (which he has since removed), Mr. Prabhakaran said journalists would not be allowed to cover Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam’s visit to the Thoothukudi Government Hospital and likened them to “street dogs”.

A press release issued by Mr. Panneerselvam and Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami stated that since Mr. Prabhakaran had conducted himself in a manner that was not in keeping with the policies and objectives of the AIADMK and had brought the party into disrepute, he had been removed from the ruling party.
