Dubbing the agitations by the DMK, the AIADMK and the Congress to press for the early constitution of the Cauvery Management Board an eyewash, BJP State president Tamilisai Soundararajan said here on Tuesday that the Cauvery issue could be resolved only through legal means.
Addressing reporters, Ms. Soundararajan condemned the “adamant attitude” of Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah over his refusal to release the quantum of water from the Cauvery river as per the directions of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal.
“In spite of the tribunal's verdict, Karnataka continues to deny water from the Cauvery, and hence, the Union government is taking all legal efforts to bring about a permanent solution to the issue,” she said.
Claiming that the BJP would ensure that Tamil Nadu got justice in this issue, she accused the DMK and the Congress of working against the interests of the people.
Questions MPs
Acknowledging that agitations and demonstrations in pursuit of justice were the right of the people, she wondered why none of the MPs from the ruling and the Opposition parties resigned to exert pressure on the Centre over the Cauvery Management Board.
Ms. Soundararajan questioned why the Congress and the DMK did not raise their voice against the allocation of ₹6,000 crore for the construction of a check dam at Mekedatu in Karnataka.
