The family of 33-year-old man who died of injuries sustained in a fire accident at his workplace in Dubai has appealed to the Collector to bring back the body and obtain compensation from the employer.

P. Udhaya Chandar, a resident of Guruvarajapalayam near Ambur, was working as a welder at a petro chemical company in Sharjah for the last two years.

“There was a fire accident at his company nearly 13 days ago and he was injured. We were not informed about the accident or his condition. He was undergoing treatment and died on the night of September 4. It was only after his death that the company manager informed us,” Chandar’s brother Vijayakumar said.

In fact, the family was eagerly waiting for his visit scheduled for September 9. It was informed that Chandar had sustained severe burns on his lower limbs and did not respond to treatment.

The family had continuously tried to reach Chandar during the 13 days, Mr. Vijayakumar said, adding, “As there was no phone call from him, we called him. First there was no answer. Later, the phone was switched off.”

Chandar’s wife Sarala (28) and her children Udhaya Varadhan (6) and Vigneshwaran (3) needed support, Mr. Vijayakumar said. During a grievance day meeting on Monday, the family submitted a petition to the Collector.
