About 400 take part in helmet awareness rally

About 400 persons including police officials, transport officials, traffic police personnel, armed reserved police personnel, driving school instructors, and employees of two-wheeler showrooms wore helmets and participated in a two-wheeler rally organized jointly by the police and transport departments from Old Bus Stand to New Bus Stand here on Wednesday. The rally was meant to create awareness among riders of two-wheelers on the imperative need to wear helmets in order to save their lives during accidents.

R. Nanthagopal, Collector of Vellore and P.K. Senthilkumari, Superintendent of Police, Vellore flagged off the rally. The Collector told newspersons that the state government has issued orders making the wearing of helmets compulsory from July 1. He appealed to the two-wheeler riders to compulsorily wear helmets for their own safety.

Pamphlets on the need for wearing helmets were distributed to the public. J.J. Prasanna, Regional Transport Officer, Vellore, Panneerselvam, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Vellore, M.P. Kaliappan, V. Ramkumar and N. Karunanidhi, traffic inspectors, and M. Vijayakumar, Information and Public Relations Officer participated in the inaugural function.
