Rakesh Kumar, chairman-cum-managing director (Additional Charge) of NLCIL, on Wednesday announced that about 1,000 workers of various contractors will be enrolled with the Industrial Cooperative Service Society (Indcoserve) of Tamil Nadu.
Delivering his speech after hoisting the national flag on the 72nd Independence Day on NLCIL premises, Mr. Kumar said that NLCIL had an ambitious plan to scale up its mining capacity to 93.15 million tonnes per annum and power generation to 21,011 MW by 2025 with a mix of lignite, coal and renewable energy.
NLCIL has added 236 MW to the available capacity of 55 MW in the renewable energy sector during 2017-18.
Power trading market
NLCIL has entered into power trading market as an Independent Accredited Power Trader in the country with Category-1 licence obtained from the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC).
This would enable NLCIL to trade its surplus power as well as procure and trade power from other generating companies in the market, he said.
Mr. Kumar said that work on the two units of 500 MW Neyveli New Thermal Power Plant project in Nevyeli was at an advanced stage of completion. Similarly, work on three units each of 660 MW coal-based Ghatampur Thermal Power Project (GTPP) of Neyveli Uttar Pradesh Power Ltd (NUPPL) is progressing well and its financial closure has been achieved.
The tendering process for Thermal Power Station -II expansion has commenced.
Also work was on for capacity addition to the extent of 909 MW is under implementation in different places in southern districts for Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation.

Flag hoisting at university
The 72nd Independence Day was celebrated in Pondicherry University on Wednesday. Prof. Gurmeet Singh, Vice-Chancellor, hoisted the national flag at the B.R. Ambedkar Administrative Building.
Mr. Singh urged the students to take up social activities for the development of the country.
Students should realise that they were responsible for their own academic success. Their sense of responsibility would come to the fore when students made choices which would lead them towards their goals.
Prof. Singh advised the students to follow the ethical values of former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.
