Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will decide on the number of seats to contest in the State Assembly elections depending on the strength the party could gain in respective constituencies. The party has decided to contest all seats in Puducherry, said AAP leader Somnath Bharti here on Tuesday.
“We see elections only as a by-product with prime focus on strengthening the organisational set-up of the party,” he told reporters after interacting with people from different segments of society.
Mr. Bharti, who was former Law Minister in Delhi and presently the party’s coordinator for Tamil Nadu, said that the party would project its governance in Delhi as a ‘pilot model’ to the voters to make them realise how corruption could be eradicated if dedicated people without vested interests come to power.
“For an example, we showed how the same Primary Health Centre facility, which was built at Rs. 5 crore during the previous regime in Delhi, could be set up at Rs. 20 lakh after the Kejriwal government assumed power. This shows that corruption is the root cause for excessive expenditure and bad governance,” he said adding that corruption is an ‘illegal tax’ imposed on people.
Terming Tamil Nadu as the most corrupt State in the country, Mr. Bharti, said that high scale of corruption in the Collectorate and Corporation administration had been hampering the progress of even an industrial cluster like Tirupur. The party now had a membership of around 10 lakh in Tamil Nadu and would be expanding further through reaching out to people in remotest part of the State, he added.
