Delightful Shoppy, a shop selling special aids and appliances for children with cerebral palsy (CP), was inaugurated on Wednesday at the Ramalinga Nagar premises of the Spastics Society of Tiruchirapalli on the occasion of World Cerebral Palsy Day.

The articles on sale at the shop are aimed at training CP children in sensory stimulation, motor skills, speech and communication, cognition skills, personal hygiene, and play material.

The outlet was inaugurated by ophthalmologist Shibu Varkey in the presence of Spastics Society director C. Shanthakumar, paediatrician Dr. Hemalatha David, besides the centre’s students and their parents. Dr. Varkey lauded the Spastics Society for “converting challenges into opportunities for thousands and thousands of not just special children, but also their families.”

The shop will be offering equipment like chairs, tableware and walking aids customised to individual requirements. Among the items that have been crafted in-house are the CP chair, which helps children to sit in the right position with the correct alignment of the spine, crawlers, potty chair, vibrating brush and a modified spoon and cup.

The store is open to the public as well and offers easy instalment payment options for some of the costlier equipment in stock.

The World Cerebral Palsy Day celebrations at the Spastics Society included a fancy-dress competition for the students.
