A shameful case, says Kanimozhi

Raises doubts over fairness of probe

DMK Rajya Sabha MP M. K. Kanimozhi, who led a massive protest in Pollachi demanding a fair probe into the serial sexual assault and blackmail case on Tuesday, said the scandal had brought shame to the State.

“Tamil Nadu should lower its head in shame,” she said, claiming that the scandal “has been going on for seven years.” Criticising the Coimbatore Rural police for revealing the identity of the complainant in the case, she said the police were now claiming that only four video clippings of the sexual assault were available, though initially they put the number of such videos at over 50. This raised questions about the fairness of the investigation.

Ms. Kanimozhi said Superintendent of Police R. Pandiarajan had ruled out the involvement of any AIADMK functionary in the scandal, strengthening the doubts about the thoroughness of the probe.the statement of an accused, Thirunavukkarasu, mentioned that there were political links and this raised inconvenient questions, she said.

According to her, it was wrong to accuse the DMK of politicising the issue, for only when protests were held could the truth be pursued and justice delivered. The Students Federation of India staged a protest in front of the Coimbatore Collectorate.. BJP leader Vanathi Srinivasan petitioned the SP to appoint a senior woman police officer to investigate.

Makkal Needhi Maiam cadres led by its coordinator Sripriya took out a march from the party office at Mahalingapuram on Coimbatore Road to the Sub-Collector’s office seeking action against the accused.
