It is usual for the actors owing allegiance to different political parties canvassing support for the respective party candidates in the elections. The AIADMK tops the list with many actors campaigning for the party candidates, followed by the DMK. The other leading parties such as DMDK, PMK, MDMK, Left parties do not have much support in the cine field. It may be surprising to note that noted comedian ‘Ganja’ Karuppu has proved a different one among the film fraternity by campaigning for an independent candidate P. Muthumani in Tiruchengode constituency in Namakkal district. He told presspersons that a few parties approached him for electioneering, but he refused taking into consideration the political situation prevailing in the State. He said he will campaign for good and socially committed independent candidates like Muthumani if they approached him.
